Monument ValleyThe giant red mesas made famous as a backdrop in countless movies are protected in the Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park on the Utah-Arizona border. A rough road leads through the cliffs, which are more than 100m high. The drive takes about two hours and this photo was taken close to where the drive returns to the visitor centre soon after sunset, as an eerie pink glow hung in the sky. The main formation on the right is Merrick Butte. Another mesa (not pictured here) is called Elephant Butte, a name that could have used a little more forethought. BACK TO SALES PAGE |
